Frequently Asked Questions
Below is some further information and answers to common questions. I welcome enquiries and am happy to provide further information about how I work and what to expect from working with me.
What is counselling?
Counselling is a confidential, safe space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained therapist. It helps you understand yourself more deeply, work through challenges, and develop healthier ways of coping, all at your own pace.
I am trained in person-centred counselling. This approach focuses on helping clients overcome barriers to growth, build self-esteem, and develop greater self-awareness by trusting their own inner resources to solve problems and live more authentically.
When are sessions?
I currently see clients at the Site Gallery, in Sheffield Centre, or online, throughout the day on Fridays.
Please get in touch if you are interested in a session any time on a Friday. You can do this by using the number or email at the bottom of the page or by filling in the contact form on the Contact page.
How much does it cost?
Sessions cost £55 for a 50-minute session.
I can offer a reduced rate to people on a low / no income – please get in touch to enquire.
Where will sessions be?
In person sessions are in a comfortable private room at the Site Gallery, Sheffield S1.
Online therapy offers you the opportunity to stay in your familiar surroundings and receive professional support - conveniently and without having to travel. For online sessions I recommend finding a private space and a time you can meet that is quiet and away from other household members.
What issues do you work with?
I’m open to supporting people with a wide range of experiences. In my person‑centred practice, I focus on understanding you as a whole person and a unique individual, rather than reducing you to any label or diagnosis. Much of my experience has been in supporting people who are navigating:
- Anxiety and stress
- Low self‑esteem, self‑worth, and confidence
- Depression, hopelessness, loneliness, and loss
- Historical abuse, neglect, and trauma
- Neurodivergence, including ADHD and autism
- Relationship difficulties, dating and break‑ups
- Work‑related stress and dissatisfaction
- Identity and sexuality exploration
- Life transitions, family and parenting issues
Qualifications, experience and professional standards
I've been practising as a therapist since 2022 - in Sheffield Mind's Revive Therapy service and at the University of Sheffield's Student Mental Health, Counselling and Therapies Service.
I have a diploma in Integrative Person-Centred Psychotherapy, which takes three years part-time to complete and involved 100 hours of counselling and extensive written work before qualification.
I am a member of The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), a regulatory body for counsellors. This means that I hold to a code of ethics and can be disciplined or ejected if I fail to live up to it.
Is the building accesible?
Yes, the room is on the second floor but there is a lift so it is fully accesible. Please get in touch if you have any other enquiries or would like to discuss how I can ensure that counselling is fully accesible for you.
Can I have a free consultation?
Yes, I offer a free 30‑minute initial chat, which gives you the chance to get a sense of what working together might be like and to ask any questions.
Starting counselling can take courage, and it’s completely normal to have questions about whether therapy can help or whether I’m the right counsellor for you. I’m happy to explain how I work so you can decide whether it feels like a good fit.
